The Poems of George Meek

Poems, Books, and Photos

George D. Meek of Arlington, Virginia, is a grandfather, Appalachian Trail hiker, retired radio news editor for the Voice of America, Presbyterian elder, and poet.

POEMS: On this site George has posted all 3,392 verses he wrote from 1990 to 2000 (not counting those penned on the Appalachian Trail, which are grouped separately and accessed by the "Poems from the AT" tab to the left). The easiest way to sample the poems in the main database is to click on the "Category Index" tab to the left and follow the instructions for viewing the 17 categories. (The Philosophy category tends to be miscellany; any topic that did not seem to fit in another category.) An alternate way to view the poems is to click on the "Search" tab to the left or use the search box below and enter a topic. For example, if you enter "rain" you will get a complete list of the hundreds of verses that contain that word.

BOOKS: George has matched 366 of the spiritual poems on this site with appropriate Bible verses and published the collection as Manna Calendar, to help any Christian grow closer to God and enjoy a deeper, more meaningful faith. It may be ordered on-line at a discount from Redemption Press. George's earlier book, Time for Everything: A Six-Year Adventure on the Appalachian Trail, written to encourage others to enjoy the whole trail at a leisurely pace, is no longer available from the Potomac Appalachian Trail Club.

PHOTOS: Tabs at the left will take you to photos of the Appalachian Trail and Kenyan wildlife. See two other old albums by clicking on Pictures taken on trip to China October 2002 and Pictures taken on trip to Australia, New Zealand and Fiji. Our son Kevin--who designed this site--has installed a new and improved way to view and react to 20 more recent albums from trips to several other countries and section hikes of the Florida Trail. Click Photo Gallery to go to the menu. Then click the title of the album you want to see, and click on a thumbnail. You can see a slide show of the album (now with captions) by clicking on the third icon at the top left, which looks like a roll of film. You can stop the show at any time by clicking on the bar below, and rate a picture or add a comment on it (there is a security feature to prevent spamming).
